Welcome to the The Tollhouse Inn, Lymington - a lovely full of character pub serving real ales, situated within easy walking distance of historic Buckland Rings and the boutique style shops of Lymington.
Originally called The Crown Inn, the pub dates back to around 1795 and has served the public under various names over the years. 1978 found its name changed to The Monkey House - a kick back to the 1870's when licensee Stephen Harris kept pet monkeys there. It was also well known for a local landmark - a monkey puzzle tree that used to be in the garden.
The quaint, carefully preserved, old Toll House built in 1795 now occupies a quiet corner of the pub garden.
The Tollhouse Inn serves a great selection of home cooked food seven days a week. Up to 40 additional people can be seated for food and drink outside - perfect for those hot Summer days !
Buckland Rings is just a short walk away - this historic area is the remains of the Iron Age hill fort of Buckland Rings, still partly covered by trees planted in the 18th century ! This scheduled Ancient Monument forms the centerpiece of a conservation area to the west of Southampton Road stretching from Passford Farm to the Toll House Inn.
The beauty of the Rings is that they are still unspoilt and peaceful, full of rabbits, birds and other wildlife.
The woodlands provide wonderful walks and as well as a place for local children to have adventures. Since 1989 the area enclosing Bucklands Rings has been in the care and ownership of Hampshire County Council and it is now open to visitors on foot.
